What this is
yt-downloader is a self-hosted download tool. It accepts a link from YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and TikTok, fetches the media on the server, and hands the finished file back to you. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with any of those platforms.
How it works
The frontend is plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The backend is a FastAPI service that validates requests and queues jobs on Redis. An ARQ worker runs yt-dlp, optionally accelerating transfers with aria2c and remuxing with FFmpeg. Finished files are kept for a limited time and then deleted by an hourly cleanup job.
Supported platforms
YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and TikTok. Capabilities differ by platform: YouTube supports up to 8K video, playlists and subtitles, while the others are limited to the resolutions they actually publish. The downloader shows only the options that apply to the link you paste.
What we do not do
- We do not ask for your platform credentials or log in on your behalf.
- We do not bypass paywalls, private content, or access controls.
- We do not keep your files beyond the retention window.
- We do not sell your data.
